Whitesboro girls win over Duke

Class B state tournament

MUSTANG – Whitesboro’s girls jumped ahead early and never gave up the advantage in a 44-34 win over Duke in an opening-round game of the Class B state tournament here Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs advance to the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday at the Fairground Arena against the Lomega-Okeene winner.

Whitesboro, ranked seventh, improved to 21-6 while sixth-ranked Duke finishes with a 23-6 mark.

Whitesboro jumped out to an early 9-4 lead and still was ahead 17-15 at the half before outscoring Duke, 15-5, in the third quarter to build a commanding lead.

Austyn Wright led Whitesboro with 16 points and Kinley Barron finished with 14.
