Slow start hurts Heavener against Sequoyah

VERDIGRIS – A terrible first quarter made up the difference as Sequoyah-Tahlequah defeated Heavener’s girls, 38-26, in a Class 3A area consolation game Thursday afternoon.

Sequoyah improves to 16-11 and advances to play the Metro Christian and Morris winner of Thursday night’s game Friday. Heavener finishes 20-6.

The Lady Wolves, playing without senior starter Lexy Chick, who missed the final two games after spraining her ankle in Monday’s win over Holdenville, failed to score in the first quarter while Sequoyah built a 12-0 lead.

The two teams both scored 26 points each over the final three quarters.
