POTEAU – A new bridge over Caston Creek west of Wister on Highway 270-271 South moved a step closer to reality Monday when LeFlore County Commissioners approved a permit from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation regarding removal of the existing span construction of a new one. No time frame was immediately available for the project.
Another agreement with ODOT regarding railroad safety improvements was tabled. The project is located in District 3 and Commissioner Craig Olive said he had questions about the agreement he wanted to check into before giving it a go-ahead.
Kayla Rees was appointed assistant secretary to the county Election Board.
The board also agreed to accept sealed bids for the purchase of overhead doors for the Summerfield Fire Department.
Commissioners agreed to submit a letter to the Oklahoma Emergency Management Department regarding the proposed hazard mitigation plan for the county.
Also approved were a renewed agreement with Sequoyah Enterprises for juvenile detention services and maximum monthly highway expenditures for June.
County Emergency Management Director Dennis Yochum said he is trying to find a mobile command center in case the county’s 911 center is cut off in an emergency. He said if the 911 center goes down, calls currently are routed to Sequoyah and Latimer counties, and a mobile center would allow local officials to remain in contact with other parts of the county.
