The daily blog 5-22-2021

Friday was a different day. Actually, no day is ever the same, but there are always that go above and beyond.

I had just made a post on Facebook asking the peeps to please subscribe, because we need you badly, when I got a call from Nathan Janway that a portion of the highway south of Hodgen had a sinkhole in it. I got another notice within a few minutes from my bud Ralph Perdue Jr.

So I got Khloe the Granddaughter to come with me and we headed out that way. As we got near Petros, I started wondering if it was even possible to get a picture. I called the ODOT and was informed a crew was on the way to repair the problem and I got a picture of the big hole in the road.

It was impressive. I posted in on Facebook and headed to Poteau. We stopped a few minutes later and the post was going crazy. I was informed it was not in fact, a sinkhole, but was instead a washout. That works for me and I must admit I do not know the difference between the two.

But I do believe our little notice hopefully made a difference. Last I checked, it had a record of over 93,000 engagements, over 100 comments and 1,500 shares. That was several hours ago so it might be different.

But I also believe this ties back in to our plea for my subscribers. I firmly believe our little news organization is important to the area. You don’t see any other out-of-county newspapers or media organizations caring about events like this. Now, one of them might have saw the attention we were getting and stole the picture, which KFSM is prone to do.

But the only time most of the larger media cares about the county is if there is a shootout, explosion, etc. We are here every day trying to make sure the people are informed and entertained.

So please do support us. This pandemic has pretty much kicked out tushes and you can subscribe to our newsletter at for only $5 a month or get our e-edition for only $3 per month at Unlike some other publications in LeFlore County, we are locally owned and operated.

Please share the word and ask your friends or family to help out. Your support is greatly appreciated.

You can read about the “washout” HERE.

The LeFlore County quilt show is coming June 4-5. This was always a big deal for my mother and if you like quilts, you really should check it out.

I probably shouldn’t mention it out of fear of jinxing it, but the rain chances are greatly diminished for Saturday. Yeah. I probably guaranteed three inches of rain today by doing that.

In today’s events, the Choctaw Country Club is holding a Par 3 tournament today at 1 p.m. This is a cool event and hopefully it can be held after all the rain.

Memorial service for Velbert Williams of Heavener is 2 p.m. May 29 at the Big Creek Baptist Church.

Graveside service for Bobby Edwards of Bokoshe is 11 a.m. Monday at the Old Bokoshe Cemetery. He was born April 19, 1953 in Blocker and passed away May 19 in Hodgen.

Funeral services for Sharon McNoel are 2 p.m. Monday at the Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro. She was born May 8, 1956 in Fort Smith and passed away May 20 in Arkoma.

Thanks for reading today’s blog. Hopefully, you will have a spectacular day and weekend. Serious.
