SHAWNEE – Wister scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday to defeat Dewar, 5-3, and advance to the Class A state championship game Saturday.
The Wildcats will play Fort Cobb-Broxton at 12:05 p.m. at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fort Cobb-Broxton defeated Rattan, 6-5, to advance to the championship game.
Wister is 28-5 and Fort Cobb-Broxton is 30-2.
Wister trailed 3-2 before the rally. C.J. Halford led off with a walk and Connar Hall also walked. Isaac Carroll sacrificed the two runners up a base before Trey Krebbs was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
With Matt Holzhammer up, Halford scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 3. Holzhammer walked to load the bases again before Landon Thornburg singled up the middle to score Hall and Krebbs with the go-ahead runs.
Will Hammons pitched the first 4.1 innings, giving up two hits and three runs with four strikeouts and five walks. Thornburg pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or run with three strikeouts.
Thornburg finished 2-4 with the two RBI and Riley Crane doubled in a 1-3 game with a run.
