Red Oak downs Whitesboro in finals

SHAWNEE – Red Oak exploded for 14 runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Whitesboro, 24-8, in the Class A championship game for slow pitch softball.

Whitesboro finished with a 28-9 record after defeating Caney, 9-8, and second-ranked Hammon 15-12, in the semifinals.

In the finals, Linley Collins tripled and was 3-3 with four RBI and a run and Kayleigh Walker went 2-3 with three runs.

In the semifinals, Whitesboro trailed 12-11 going into the bottom of the seventh when Walker’s grand slam gave the Lady Bulldogs the 15-12 win.

Whitesboro led 9-2 after four innings before Hammon’s bats heated up. Hammon scored three times in the top of the seventh to take the lead for the first time.

Madi Edwards went 3-5 with two runs, Linley Collins was 3-4 with two runs and a RBI, Darah Cole doubled and had a 3-4 outing with a run, Walker had the grand slam and finished 2-5 with four RBI and two runs, Hope Bailey homered and went 2-2 with three runs and two RBI and Sam Craig homered and was 2-4 with four RBI and a run.

In the opener, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 8-7 going into the bottom of the seventh. After Whitesboro tied the score, Edwards hit a double, scoring Desarae Grogan with the winning run.

Hannah Abeyta went 3-5 with two RBI and two runs, Walker was 3-4 with three RBI, Kinley Barron homered in a 1-2 game with two RBI and a run and Edwards wound up 1-5 with a RBI and a run.
