CALERA – Wister’s girls defeated Gore twice and finished as the runner-up at the Class 3A slow pitch softball tournament at Calera to advance to the state tournament.
Wister (30-8) will play in the state tournament Tuesday at the Ballparks in Firelake at a time and against an opponent to be announced.
The Lady Wildcats defeated Gore in the opener, 19-5, lost to Calera, 11-10-, before clinching the state trip with a 20-8 win over Gore.
In the opener, Wister grabbed a 16-0 lead through two innings and coasted to the win.
Hattie Pate homered three times and was 3-3 with eight RBI and three runs, Jordan Makovy homered and went 3-4 with four RBI and three runs, Jaelyn Covey had a 3-4 game with three RBI, Kourtney Donaho doubled and finished 2-3 with three RBI and two runs, Reagan Roath doubled and went 2-3 with a run and Triniti McCoy had a 2-3 game with a RBI and a run.

In the winner’s bracket finals against Calera, Wister led 7-6 before Calera took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Wister scored twice to pull within a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kinley Branscum homered and tripled while going 2-3 with two RBI and two runs, Makovy homered and was 2-3 with two runs and a RBI, McKenna Pierce had a 2-4 game with a RBI, McCoy went 2-3 with a RBI and Pate homered again while going 1-3 with three RBI and a run.

The Lady Wildcats clinched the state trip with the second win over Gore.
Wister trailed 6-1 after three innings and still were behind 7-4 before scoring 13 runs in the top of the fifth to clinch the win.
Roath went 5-5 with a RBI, Hope Gotes doubled and was 3-5 with three runs and two RBI, Donaho had a grand slam and was 2-5 with four RBI and two runs, Pate also had a grand slam and finished 2-2 with seven RBI and two runs, Covey had a 2-4 game with three runs, Pierce went 2-4 with three runs and a RBI and Kate Hammons homered and was 1-3 with two RBI and two runs.
