Jimmie Lee Runnels, 74, of Heavener, was born April 10, 1947 in Houston, Texas to Gerald Runnels, Sr. and Rosalie (Rowllet) Runnels and passed away April 13, 2021 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Paul Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in Hodgen Cemetery, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Jimmie was a long-time resident of the area and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a retired minister, a certified plumber, and worked as a deputy sheriff in Texas. Jimmie and Eva married on April 17, 2019. He loved spending time sitting on his front porch with his family and friends and sharing the Word of God. His favorite hobbies were making fishing lures and watching movies.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Darlene Runnels, of the home; a daughter, Janet Waggoner, of Heavener; step-daughter Rikki Knight and husband Sam of Summerfield; two sisters Sharon Runnels of Hartford, Arkansas and Linda Runnels of Hodgen; a nephew, Phil Sanchez, of Hodgen; numerous other relatives and a host of many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald Runnels, Sr. and Roselie (Rowlett) Runnels; his late wife of 38 years, Jackie Runnels; and two brothers Gerald Runnels, Jr. and Clifford L. Runnels.
Viewing is from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The family visitation is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are John Fox, Tim Necker, Terry Ray, Steven Robinson, Phil Sanchez and David Yoder.
