Good morning and welcome to the Ledger/LCJ morning podcast. I’m Craig Hall with the Ledger and LeFlore County Journal.
Today is March 11, the 70th day of the year. There are 295 days left in 2021.
You are probably wondering why this day is important, Well, it was a year ago on the Thursday of this week that things started getting shut down from coronavirus. It’s also a month and one day until my birthday, so start wondering what would be a good present for my 58th birthday.

We will start doing online audio of sporting events today with baseball games at Heavener. You can listen in HERE. We plan to do the games as often as possible. Of course, it would be better to do a live stream, but with baseball and softball we do not have the equipment plus we would be dealing with sketchy internet services in some places.
Today in paper day for the Ledger/LCJ so either get to a local store to purchase one or subscribe to our e-edition and you won’t even have to leave the house or get dressed.
In news, LeFlore County had eight new coronavirus cases in Wednesday’s report by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
Spiro had five new cases, Bokoshe, Pocola and Shady Point each had one. Active cases are 107, down three from Tuesday.
The Class 2A state tournaments start today with the girls playing at Noble and the boys playing at the historic State Fairground.
Both of the LeFlore County girls’ teams Howe and Pocola will pair off in the first round at Noble while Howe’s boys play in the “big house”.
Howe’s girls, which are 22-2 and ranked second, play county foe Pocola (17-6 and ranked eighth) at Noble Thursday at 4 p.m.
Howe’s boys play Cashion at 11:30 a.m. at the Fairgrounds Arena.
Fishing appears to be improving at our area lakes according to this week’s fishing report.
Another blah day for weather Thursday with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain. But hey, at least it’s not snowing or sleeting. And, if it was a nice day, the Forest Service would have controlled burns so we couldn’t see the blue skies.
The high will be 72 degrees with a low of 63 degrees.
After the usual slow day Wednesday, there are a lot of activities and events for Thursday.
The Poteau Kiwanis Club meets at noon in the Western Sizzlin’. Along with the state tournament basketball games, there are several baseball games scheduled including Panama at Heavener, McAlester at Poteau, Wister at Hartshorne, Pocola at Spiro, Bokoshe, Cameron and Talihina at the Battiest Tournament.
The only softball game on our schedule is Wister at Warner. In soccer, Heavener visits Mena.
Also, the Heavener VFW bingo is at 6 p.m. in the VFW Hall at Highway 59 North.
