Good morning to all my excellent readers. As you can see from the picture of the jonquil above, which was taken at the dumpy house across the street, spring is coming.
I tried to make that sound dramatic like they did on Game of Thrones, but failed. Miserably.
Today is Feb. 25, 2021. This is the 56th day of 2021 and there are 309 days left in the year.
You can listen to our morning podast HERE.
The new Ledger is out today so go get one up at your favorite store, or get our e-edition and you could have already read this week’s paper.
We had a little shake up on the front page. I had a picture I really liked for the front page of the icicles at the Runestone Park, but had to swap it out with a picture of Heavener’s Firemen fighting a fire of hay in the back of the trailer. I think this will catch they eye of potential readers more than icicles.
But I am beginning to question my choices. We put out a paper which I expect will be a best seller and it does bad. Then we do one that is not quite our usual level, and it does much better than expected.
So, basically, I do not have a clue. Sorry. We do continue to try and put out a great paper every week even in a dying industry where a majority of the people don’t bother to read it except when a family member’s picture or name is in the paper.
LeFlore County had 12 new coronavirus cases in Wednesday’s report by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, breaking a string of three days with new cases in the single digits.

Active cases are 118, up one from Tuesday.

Maybe it has changed, but our fishing report shows fishing is slow at Wister Lake. It also says the Lake is frozen, but I doubt that is still the case.
In weather, warmer temperatures continue Thursday, although not as warm as it has been the last couple of days. There is also a good chance of rain, which will continue for the next several days.
Several events scheduled for today.
Poteau’s Kiwanis Club meets at noon in Western Sizzlin’. The Heavener VFW weekly bingo is at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Highway 59 North.
There are also the basketball games mentioned previously. The LeFlore County livestock show continues at the county fairground. Heck, we even have a baseball game scheduled with Bokoshe visiting Pittsburg/Haileyville, but I would bet the game will be postponed due to weather conditions.
The LeFlore County Republicans meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center on South McKenna in Poteau.
The Talihina Chamber of Commerce annual meeting is 6 p.m. at Talihina’s Kiamichi Technology Center.
Graveside services for Connor Smallwood are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Monroe Cemetery.
Bobby Joe Shadwick’s funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at the Mt. View Baptist Church in the Glendale Community.
