Obituary for Elaine Calhoun

MONROE – Elaine (Benefield) Calhoun, 74, of Monroe, was born May 14, 1946 in San Diego, California to J.C. and Velma (Scantling) Benefield and passed away Sept. 24, 2020 in Monroe.

Funeral service is Saturday at 3 p.m. at Heavener First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with Rev. Don Benefield and Bro. Brock Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Elaine was a life-long resident of the area and a member of the Heavener First Baptist Church. She was a retired dietician/supervisor for Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center and the supervisor of the Heavener First Baptist Church kitchen crew. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Elaine will be missed by all that knew her.

Surviving family members are one son Billy Massey and wife Wendy of Shawnee; six sisters

Anna Bandy of Howe, Margie and James Phillips of Howe, LaDonna Dunn of Calera, Nancy Cox of Howe, Debbie Benefield of Howe, and Jaylene Shepherd and Wendell of Howe; four brothers Ronnie Benefield and wife Blevlyn of Howe, James Benefield of Shady Point, Donald Benefield and wife Linda of Monroe, and Dewayne Benefield and wife Sherry of Howe; five grandsons Cody Allen Massey of Shawnee, Tyler Joseph Massey of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Trevor Massey and wife Derica of Sallisaw, Dustin Longcrier and wife Jaci of Shawnee, and Cody Longcrier and wife Hannah of Wellston; seven great-grandchildren Kristen Michelle Massey, Taylor Jean Massey, Logan James Massey, Anolyn Kay Massey, Haizlee Kae Massey, Jameson William “Jett” Massey and Stetson Jerry Longcrier; special aunts Reba Chronister, Norma Pitchford, Lavell Scantling and Rachel Scantling; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Velma Benefield; her twin brother, Allen “Cookie” Benefield and brother, Jackie Lynn Benefield; and a nephew, Aaron Benefield.

Pallbearers are Ron Pelanconi, Hank Stripling, Harold Sanders, Donnie Killion, Corry Duncan and Steve Scantling. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews.

Viewing is Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
