Obituary for Helen Carter

Helen (Wedge) Carter, 84, of Heavener, was born Jan.3, 1936 in the Independence community, outside of Heavener, to Evert and Nena (Elliott) Wedge and passed away Sept. 20, 2020 in Poteau.

Funeral service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Heavener with Bro. Mark Morris, Bro. Jim Seale and Steve Hembree officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Helen was a life-long resident of Heavener, a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Helen will be missed by all that knew her.

Surviving family members are two daughters Nancy Morris and husband Mark of Heavener, and Susan Hembree and husband Steve of Heavener; two sons Bob Carter and wife Marketa of Poteau, and Dennis Carter and wife Sheri of Poteau; one brother Stanley Wedge and wife Jerri of Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren Bradley Morris and wife Shauna, Whitney Blaylock and husband Adam, Brandon Carter, Amy Wilson and husband Brock, Sara Carter, Adam Carter, and Arin Place and husband Chad; eight great-grandchildren Kaylee Harrington, Garric Morris, Carter Wilson, Tucker Wilson, Brady Wilson, Hadlee Place, Haven Place and Hailee Place; two sisters-in-law Doris Wedge of Norman and Melva Wedge of Hutchinson, Kansas; special family friends Gary and Barbara Crain of Prague, and their two children Kim Hyden and husband Glen, and their children, McKenna and Graceyn Brandi Sapp and husband Heath, and their children, Lindsey, Luke, Hannah and David.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey Lee Carter; and two brothers, Darrell Wedge and Jack Wedge.

Pallbearers are Bradley Morris, Adam Blaylock, Brandon Carter, Brock Wilson, Adam Carter, Chad Place, Dylan Roberts and Randy Matos

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Hinds, Manuel Richmond, Gary Crain, Jimmy Hight, Max Roberts and Roger Clubb.

Viewing is from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family visiting with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
