An excessive heat warning is in effect Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. for LeFlore County.
Heat index values up to 113 degrees are expected.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Everybody should take precautions if you work or spend time outside. Strenuous activities should be done early morning or evening. You should know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
People are encouraged to wear light weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and to drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments are needed.
Anyone who is overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency and 911 should be called.
